不久前，Sun微系統公司公開了旨在建立P2P(Peer to Peer)通用技術基礎的JXTA計划。JXTA是項目創始人、Sun首席科學家Bill Joy二十多年醞釀的結晶，“JXTA技術是網絡程式化和計算的平台，用以解決現代分布計算尤其是點對點(P2P)計算中出現的問題。”JXTA研究項目，將提供使使用者更便捷地訪問連接在互聯網上的個人電腦資源的新框架，從而進一步拓展互聯網的空間。 同時JXTA也是Sun的ONE互聯網戰略的延續，並且將更積極的姿態與Microsoft的.Net戰略和Hailstorm計划一爭高低。Joy指出，JXTA可能是Sun One平台最簡單的一部分，而不是打算將它變成象微軟的.Net那樣復雜的東西。而且JXTA也將是開放源代碼的團體。有別於而微軟的Passport和Hailstorm技術都是申請專利的專有技術，Sun希望通過公開JXTA源代碼的方式，成為微軟最有力的競爭對手。在公開源代碼的領域中，Linux和Apache是卓越的成功典範，Sun也希望JXTA能鑄造新的成功。 JXTA是很值得玩味的話題。當Napster官司纏身，而微軟和AOL在及時消息(IM)領域爭的熱火朝天的時候，Sun也介入P2P這塊是非之地。正如XML將改變資料交換的格式、Web Service將改變網絡計算的模式，而P2P將使得互聯的資源得以充分利用和共享，真正體現資訊的有效價值；而XML、Web Service和P2P卻都不是天才們全新的創造，XML是SGML的精簡，數年前的“Network is Computer”和如今的“Web is service”的口號同出一轍，1999年由Sun提出的JINI計划也號稱能使印表機和數字相機等裝置共享資料，而不需要中間的媒介，這和如今脫離中心服務器的Napster、Gnutella和尋找外星生物的SETI@home倡議基於相同的考慮：如何使得資訊的共享和計算更加的直接而有效。 舊瓶換新裝，老醋添新味。如今，Web Service成為了軟體發展的共同模式，從Microsoft、IBM、HP、Sun等老將到Oracle、Bea等新貴，都轟轟烈烈的踏上了征程，從.Net、e-Service、Dynamic-ecommerce到ONE，“八仙過海，各顯神通”。眼下微軟磨刀霍霍，帶著護照(Passport)和信差(Messenger)進入了P2P領域，並且積極拓展為新的服務渠道。Intel也成立的專門的P2P研究部門，準備更大程度的投入這個領域。Sun當然看到了其中的技術趨勢和商業機會，JXTA就是它繼Java、JINI之后的又一重要舉措。 P2P技術不僅是為了通過網絡促進人與人之間的交流，還是推動連接在網絡上的設備相互通信的技術。它是一項重要的網絡計算技術，對於目前占絕對主流的C/S計算方式以及基於Web的架構都是很好的補充。但是仍然有一些問題有待解決，包括平台無關性、安全性和管理工具等。 雖然考慮到可供企業使用的P2P技術還處於摸索階段，但是誰又能懷疑人們能夠找到合理的技術方案解決安全和目錄系統等問題，以實現透過防火墻實現點對點的直接通信呢？JXTA的所代表的P2P技術將不僅僅局限於終端使用者層，還一定會從多層面挖掘出因特網的潛力。JXTA還將擴展P2P計算，要實現大量的分布計算的應用，並且能夠克服目前存在於許多P2P應用中限制。JXTA 項目將最終使得新的應用可以運行在任何擁有數字心臟的設備上，包括桌面電腦、服務器、PDA、手機和其他連接的設備。 JXTA將建立核心的網絡計算技術，提供支持在任何平台、任何地方以及任何時間實現P2P計算的一整套簡單、小巧和靈活的機制。JXTA首先將歸納目前P2P的功能特別，而后建立核心的技術來表達目前的P2P計算的局限性。其重點是創建基本的機制，而具體的策略選擇權則交給應用的開發者。JXTA將充分利用XML、Java等開放技術，使得UNIX操作系統更強大和靈活，比如利用管道(Pipes)傳輸Shell命令實現復雜的計算任務。JXTA支持P2P應用的基本功能來建立一個P2P系統，還將努力證實這些可以成為建立更高層功能的基礎構造模塊。JXTA架構可以分為三個層面：JXTA核心層、JXTA業務層和JXTA應用層。 JXTA核心層提供了P2P業務和應用的核心支持。在多平台、安全的運行環境中，提供了對等組(peer groups)、對等管道(peer pipes)和對等監視(peer monitoring)等機制。 JXTA 業務層擴展了核心層的功能，是應用的開發工具。在該層提供的機制包括搜索、索引、代碼緩存等。 JXTA應用層建立在前面兩個層次之上，建立對等(peer)的業務和應用。通過核心和對等業務層建立的對等應用包括直接連接買賣方的P2P拍賣等。例如SETI@home等資源共享的應用也可以更快更方便的建立。及時消息、電子信件、日曆等服務都可以在對等組內實現。 JXTA技術提供了基礎性的機制老解決當前分布計算應用中面臨的問題，將實現新一代統一(ubiquitous)、安全(secure)、互操作(interoperable)以及異構(heterogeneous)的應用。目前它支持基於Java技術的平台和系統。而將來JATX技術將不受到記憶體的限制而支持更多小型移動設備。JXTA通過Java技術和XML資料表達的結合，提供了強大的功能使得垂直應用得以交互，並且可以克服目前P2P軟體中的限制。同時，通過小型、簡單、便於開發的構造模塊，JXTA將使開發者從建立各自框架的復雜工作得以解放，可以潛心關注於建設各類新穎、創造性的、分布式計算應用。
