Open Database Desktop 2. Open the table you want to work with (File | Open | Table) 3. Select Tools | Utilities | Restructure (or click the Restructure icon) 4. Select Secondary Indexes from the Table Properties drop-down list 5. Select the Define button. The Define Secondary Index dialog will display. 6. Highlight the index you want to set as "maintained" 7. Select the Maintained checkbox in the Index Options section of the dialog 8. Select OK to save your modifications Additional Information If you do not need to ever edit or add to the data in a table (in other words, with a read-only table), you can improve performance by creating indexes that are not maintained.
