In fact, icons are "small pictures" but you cannot use them directly in your documents since they have a particular format. But with GConvert, this dream becomes reality: in some clicks, you can insert your icon in your document or export them to your disk.
Its basic purpose: GConvert extracts icons from files and displays them in a list: select the icon you want and and it is converted into the format you want. GConvert reads any icon files such as executable, DLL, ICL, OCX, VBX, CPL, NIL, IL files and then allows you to save extracted icons as icon, bitmap, metafile, GIF, JPEG, PNG formats, or even copy them to the Windows clipboard for re-use in your applications, documents, Web pages. But GConvert offers you more flexibility and functionality than other standard icons extractors: by example the possibility to read any icons including their images, the ability to implement external plug-ins for adding more destination formats (for instance the PNG and GIF formats are provided thanks to plug-ins).
With its intuitive interface, GConvert can be easily and quickly used with no problem: no complicate menus, buttons or dialogs. Each important command can be instantly accessed with the mouse or keystrokes.
GConvert finally provides you with advanced features: scan your system to look for "hidden" icons, create icons from bitmaps (true .ICO icon files), export all icons from a file (especially from an icons library) to a folder or a Web page (for Internet publishing), manage icon favorites, compile icons into single library files and much more.
