摘要
JPEG 在數年前完成第一個標準， 亦即現在通用的 JPG 檔。 之後仍持續進行新標準的制定。
目前已有草案， 預計在二千年將定稿成為新一代的國際標準， 目前稱之為JPEG 2000。
JPEG 2000 預期制訂一個全新的系統， 可以針對不同種類 （如雙色調、灰階、彩色、多元件） 的圖片，
利用不同的特性 （如自然影像、科學影像、醫學影像…） 進行壓縮。
JPEG 2000 預期要提供一種低運算量及資料量-失真都比現有的標準好的系統。
此外，這個系統將包含?多新的特性如下：
hn 高壓縮比時有較佳的效果
hn具有『失真式壓縮』與『無失真式壓縮』
hn尺寸大於 64k x 64k 影像的壓縮
hn所有選項使用相同的壓縮架構
hn在雜訊較大的環境傳輸的能力
hn電腦產生的影像壓縮
Abstract
JPEG 2000 is intended to create a new image coding system for different types of still images (such as bi-level, gray-level, color, multi-component) with different
characteristics (natural images, scientific, medical, remote sensing imagery, text, rendered graphics, etc.). This coding system is intended to provide low bit-rate operation
with rate-distortion and subjective image quality performance superior to existing standards, without sacrificing performance at other points in the rate-distortion spectrum.
In addition, this system provides a set of features as followed:
hnBetter low bit-rate compression performance
hnLossless and lossy compression
hnLarge images compression (larger than 64k x 64k)
hnSingle decompression architecture
hnTransmission in noisy environments
hnComputer generated imagery

JPEG 2000架構簡介
同上圖所示，JPEG 2000 是由三個部分組成的：
1.Wavelet Transform-
hn將影像的關連性分離
2.Quantization-
hn將離散小波轉換產生的係數予以量化
3.EBCOT(Embedded Block Coding with Optimal Truncation)-
hn對於量化過的係數，以 entropy coding 的方式壓縮。
A Brief Introduction to JPEG 2000
As the figure Above, JPEG 2000 is composed of three part:
1.Wavelet Transform-
hnDecomposed the spatial correlation of input image
2.Quantization-
hnQuantize the coefficients generated by wavelet transform.
3.EBCOT(Embedded Block Coding with Optimal Truncation)-
hnEntropy coding the quantized coefficients.
實驗結果(Experiment Results)
1.在極低的資料量下，分別由 JPEG 與 JPEG 2000 產生的影像
h這個實驗的目的是在測試極低的資料量下，JPEG 2000是否比 JPEG 有更好的表現。

3.有興趣區域(ROI)的表示-
h將一張圖片中特別有興趣的區域選取，可以用較佳的效果表現出來。
hRegion of Interest(ROI)-
hSelect the region of interest, and use better quality(up to lossless) to present the area.
